Should Leamington Ban Hogs for Hospice?

Should the Town of Leamington Ban Hogs for Hospice?

This realtor thinks so

A letter written by Robert Tatomir and sent to Leamington mayor and council has ruffled many feathers and caused Mr. Tatomir to make an attempt at damage control.

He seems angry at their town for allowing Hogs for Hospice to operate within their township calling the participants, “naughty”, “much less than middle class”, “red neck”, “drinkers, smokers, tattoos laiden, with drugs and even more.”

I’m sympathetic to the personal anguish Mr. Tatomir must be carrying on his shoulders from the tragic loss of his wife, the betrayal and theft by his bookkeeper who bilked over 103k from Tatomir’s family business by making 128 fraudulent transactions to herself in a 2 1/2 year period, and the embarrassing loss during his attempt at a seat for Leamington council. Coming in 14th out of 15 candidates each vying for one of 5 seats on council, Tatomir demanded a manual recount.

A back-peddling apology was issued after a storm of opposing views were virually expressed on social media in which Mr. Tatomir stated that he sincerely apologizes for “painting bikers with such a broad brush. That was not my intention as I used to ride myself and I am aware of the good work bike clubs do for various charity organizations”.

The Hogs for Hospice is a well attended annual event in it’s 3rd year, which has raised $270k for Hospice (70,000 in it’s first year and 200,000 in it’s second) and attracts local celebrities and other high-profile members of the community.

The 3rd annual Hogs For Hospice Motorcycle Rally will take place Civic Holiday weekend 2018: August 3rd, 4th & 5th. It will include vendors from across Southern Ontario, incredible concerts, live entertainment, bike games, motocross stunt show, beer garden and their signature event ‘Tour the Tip”, which is an organized registered ride to the most southern tip of Canada, showcasing the Essex County Area, Point Pelee National Park, Shoreline, Wineries, etc.

Mayor and Leamington Town Council members:
Have you guys ever thought of holding a more family friendly fun summer festival than the current rough and tough “Hogs for Hospice” event. Yes the HOspice provides a wonderful service, howver, extra loud motorcycles running through and around town is not the kind of venue that brings and supports good family values to mid to upper class residents of which we are rapidly loosing and being replaced with lets just say much less than middle class folks. Since we have the beautiful Seacliff Park, great waterfront and new Ampitheater why not use it to promote a Wine/Cheese/Food/Music festival for 3 days bringing in different quality vendors and acts that supply not so hard ass music the Hogs for Hospice likes and generates. I know many good quality families that love to attend the sorts of the Kingsville folk festival but will choose to stay away from the naughty “Hogs for Hospice” event because of the negativity it raises, no matter how you slice it many of the Hogs aka motorcycle people are drinkers, smokers, tattoos laiden, with drugs and even more.

This venue each year is not sending or leaving the public or the visitors to Leamington the most positive message that Leamington could be sending, like it or not it is sending a more red neck signal that will only continue to deteriorate this town.

Like it or not Mayor Paterson your strong desire to promote this type of venue each year is not helping to build up this town’s image, it is actually lessening it. It is unbelievable to many high end business people in the community you all can’t see this negativity unfolding each summer.
You all should take a field trip to Port Dover on a Friday the 13th and see for yourself how well that is working out for them, is that what we want for this town? my family and many others sure hope not!
I guess the old adage “you can’t see the forest for the trees” really applies here.

With Best Regards,

Apology status
Robert Tatomir apology status via Facebook”FACEBOOK FRIENDS & FAMILY”” The other day I sent a private email letter to the Leamington Mayor and town Councillors with an idea that we consider holding a more family friendly fundraising event for the local Hospice. Never did I suggest or infer the Hospice was not a good thing, the Hospice provides a great service. My private email was sent only to the town officials and was leaked out by one of their members. I sincerely apologize for painting bikers with such a broad brush. That was not my intention as I used to ride myself and I am aware of the good work bike clubs do for various charity organizations. Living in a democratic society, each of us should be able to voice different ideas without insult or fear of reprisal, however, I guess that is just wishful thinking. Those of you that know me, know full well my intentions have always been good.
I will be sure to choose my words more wisely in the future!
SINCERELY Robert Tatomir
