House to House Combat: The Battle of the Gingerbreads
Presented by the DWBIA and St. Clair College
Grab your gumdrops, ready your candy canes and snap up your sugar — it’s time for the DWBIA’s Battle of the Gingerbreads, presented by St. Clair College, In partnership with the Windsor Star.
Participants of all ages are invited to submit photos of their edible holiday creations to the Windsor Star between December 1 and December 13 for the chance to be declared the Best Gingerbread House in Windsor-Essex. The Windsor Star will dedicate a page on their site to the event, where viewers will be invited to vote for their favourites. Eligible entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges who will select 16 qualifying photos which best meet the criteria: overall appearance, originality, creativity, difficulty, precision and consistency in theme.
“We’re happy to help families carry on the legacy and tradition of creating gingerbread houses this year through this unique and engaging experience, in a fun, creative and safe virtual format,” said St. Clair College President Patti France.
The houses will then be judged by the community and three prizes will be awarded. Prizes are a Downtown Windsor gift basket filled with goods and products from downtown retailers and businesses valued at $600, $400, and $200 respectively.
“While this is a responsible, socially-distanced alternative to a traditional in-person gingerbread house competition, it embraces the community and encourages engagement,” DWBIA Chair Brian Yeomans added.
